The Morzine ski resort is synonymous with Richard’s first stay in the mountains and also his first time on skis as a child . The village nestled in the Aulps valley of Haute-Savoie is located in a valley at an altitude of 890 m and the roofs of the chalets do not necessarily benefit from snow all winter. The most important thing is that the Morzine ski area and its 125 ski slopes benefit from more snowfall than in most other ski resorts in the Alps. This is due to its geographical location between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. The area is also part of the Portes du Soleil which includes 12 resorts including the Avoriaz resort which overlooks the village of Morzine and its typical chalets . It is between 890 m and 2460 m altitude that you can have fun in the powder from morning to night. So no worries about having snow on the slopes and enjoying winter sports activities throughout the season .

How to get to Morzine from Paris?

To access the Morzine winter sports resort, there are several means of transport .

1.1. Getting to Morzine by train or car?

Basically, whether you choose the train or the car, it takes the same time (in theory) to reach the resort. After that, it’s more a question of budget , departure day , and the number of people you’re going on a ski holiday with.

Otherwise, you can also come to Morzine by car . If you choose this solution like us, count on about 5 hours 45 minutes of driving, mainly on the A6 and A40 motorways. The last 30 kilometres are on a departmental road. Obviously, don’t forget to drive with snow tyres and have chains in case of snowfall.

We are coming to discover the joys of the mountains in Morzine during a 10-day winter road trip in the Alps . After the Verbier resort in Switzerland and just before going to discover Orcières in the Hautes-Alpes , here we are in Haute-Savoie . We therefore wanted to drive safely with a well-equipped vehicle given the number of kilometers to do.

We opted to rent a fully equipped and very comfortable vehicle at the Sixt rental agency at the Grenoble train station. After a warm welcome , we were lucky enough to find ourselves behind the wheel of an elegant, almost new BMW X1 . The handling is just perfect.

Once you arrive in Morzine, an original way to discover the traditional Savoyard village is to embark on a tour of the resort in Rachel Marullaz’s carriage . Charismatic and endearing at the same time, Rachel knows every nook and cranny of the winter sports resort as well as the anecdotes and stories linked to each building in the village. On the way, you may be lucky like us to spot a few deer and other cervids . You will not be alone in the carriage pulled by her faithful mare Italie , because Rachel never goes for a ride without her dog, Filou . The departure point is at the Morzine tourist office square.
