winter sports holiday in Verbier is the guarantee of a successful stay in the Swiss Alps . The elegant resort is located at an altitude of 1500 m in the canton of Valais . Its 4 Vallées ski area , one of the largest in Switzerland, is rather reserved for good skiers and freeride lovers and allows skiing up to 3314 m above sea level.

The resort also offers a range of Nordic activities for holidaymakers who love snow, such as paragliding, sledding and snowshoeing . And there is no shortage of good places to eat, drink and sleep in Verbier either. As soon as you gain altitude, you can also enjoy multiple and unique viewpoints and panoramas of the Val de Bagnes and the most famous peaks of the Alps, such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn.

We had already been to the Swiss resort in summer . In winter, the alpine village obviously takes on a completely different look. We tell you more in this new article from our OneDayOneTravel travel blog following a 4-day – 3-night stay in January 2020.

Verbier: Winter sports holidays between alpine skiing, paragliding, snowshoeing and sledding

How to get to Verbier from Paris?

The Swiss resort of Verbier is accessible by train, bus, plane or even by car from France and therefore from Paris.

Due to a SNCF strike in France, we were unable to come by train. If you are luckier than us and opt for this option, know that it is possible from Paris in 6h10 by train via Geneva in 3h10, Martigny in 1h30 then Le Châble in 26 minutes. There, you will reach the Verbier ski resort by taking a gondola in 8 minutes. The Paris-Geneva section is also possible by plane .

By bus , it will take about 13 hours to get from Paris. It is definitely not the fastest option.

Finally, by car , it takes roughly the same time as by train, i.e. 6h30 . Our stay in Verbier being part of a 10-day road trip in the Alps between the resorts of Verbier, Morzine and Orcières , we decided to first go down with our own car from Paris to Grenoble and then rent a vehicle equipped with snow tires and chains at the Sixt Gare agency in Grenoble . The team is very welcoming and very professional.

We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a BMW X1 which, in addition to its athletic design and great comfort , has excellent road holding and a large trunk for our suitcases . So many advantages for setting off on an Adventure!

How to get the best insurance for skiing abroad?

Like all sports, skiing is a Nordic activity that involves risks . When renting your equipment at the resort, don’t hesitate to ask for a helmet . When you buy your ski pass, you are often offered to take out dedicated insurance . Before saying yes, we advise you to carefully reread your insurance contract before leaving on vacation with regard to the following points:

Discover the Verbier and 4 Valleys ski area. Where to rent your skis?

 The 4 Valleys area

Thanks to its high altitude location, Verbier ensures sufficient snow levels to enjoy the ski slopes all winter long. Even though it hasn’t snowed for over 3 weeks, the quality of the powder is excellent and all the slopes are open. Enough to have fun in complete safety on one of the most famous ski areas in the world, which is the 3rd in Europe . The 4 Valleys area links the resorts of Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon, La Tzoumaz and Bruson.
